3rd South Asian Melioidosis Congress (SAMC) - 2023
Dhaka, Bangladesh
Message from the flyer:
Dear colleague,
It is a proud privilege for us to host the 3rd South Asian Melioidosis Congress (SAMC) for the very first time in Dhaka, Bangladesh. We take this wonderful opportunity to cordially invite you to take part and contribute to the congress to be held in 20th and 21st October, 2023.
The organism, Burkholderia pseudomallei, which is hiding behind the soil curtain, is responsible for the deadly disease, melioidosis. Many facets of the disease are still entirely unfamiliar to us. The South Asian Melioidosis Congress, being one of the largest events, will allow the huge amalgam of researchers and clinicians from different parts of the world to exchange their fruitful findings and views in order to come to a conclusive decision regarding the diagnosis, management and prevention of melioidosis.
The conference will be attended by prominent microbiologists, interdisciplinary researchers, clinicians and epidemiologists from all around the world, expected to engage in expansive conversations regarding the most recent innovations, research trends, practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in various thematic areas of melioidosis. We hope that this will allow us to design a potent warfare map to wage our battle against the deadly disease.
The success of such an event depends mostly on the quality of your participation and the dynamics of discussions so as to achieve further progress on the subject. We are hopeful that this congress will be a splendid platform for sharing the unrevealed secrets of melioidosis due to the current advancement in the research fields concerning the disease. Moreover, a gathering among such accomplished and aspiring scientists will expectantly lead to a further rapport among all of us in the future.
Your presence in the said event is an absolute honour to us.

European Melioidosis Congress 2022 - Graz, Austria
The European Melioidosis Congress 2021 will take place from Monday16th May until Wednesday 18th May 2021 in Graz Austria. The venue will be at Congress Graz in the middle of the historical city centre.
Burkholderia pseudomallei, causative agent of melioidosis and its clonal descendant Burkholderia mallei, causing glanders, coexist in many parts of the world. Distinguishing these diseases in humans and animals might be difficult. As a focus of this conference we aim to create a program which attracts both scientists from the melioidosis and the glanders community.
Our Congress will begin with a welcome reception on the evening of Monday 16th May 2022 and end the evening of Wednesday (about 16.00) 18th May 2022.

World Melioidosis Congress 2019
Sheraton Hotel, Hanoi, Vietnam
Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to warmly invite you to attend the 9th World Melioidosis Congress (WMC), which will be held in Hanoi from October 15th to 18th, 2019. The venue for the congress is the Sheraton hotel located in the West lake of Hanoi, a historical capital with the richest traditions and cultural heritages in Vietnam. WMC is the biggest event held once every three years to bring together the international melioidosis research community from different parts of the world.
The congress is co-organized by the Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the Institute of Hygiene, Microbiology and Environmental Medicine, Medical University of Graz, Austria. The organization of the congress is also strongly supported by many healthcare professionals from Vietnamese medical universities and hospitals administered directly by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health.
Under the theme “Local Action through Global Knowledge” this congress is a great chance not only to share up-to-date knowledge on all important aspects of melioidosis, but also to strongly encourage local management and prevention of the disease in Vietnam. Although melioidosis was recognized in Vietnam almost a century ago, the disease was largely forgotten over the last decades. However, recent research activities revealed a significant number of melioidosis cases in parts of the country. To further strengthen this progress our program will include sessions with translation into Vietnamese to encourage many Vietnamese health care professionals to attend the WMC. In those sessions special attention will be given on melioidosis mimicking diseases and major risk factors.
The 9th WMC will also include a pre-congress workshop held on October 14th & 15th, 2019. The workshop will also be useful to clinical laboratory staff to get hands on experience in basic and advanced laboratory techniques applied in the diagnosis of melioidosis.
The 9th WMC is the time to meet old and new friends in the autumn season of Hanoi. Moreover, it will be a chance for you to explore a country with diverse cultures and beautiful landscapes along the coastal regions as well as in the delta, plateau and mountain areas.
By hosting this big event in Hanoi, we hope that the exchange with scientists from different parts of the world will also facilitate policy-making processes aiming to reduce the disease burden in the country. Therefore, we greatly appreciate your attendance and contribution to the success of the 9th WMC.
We are looking forward to welcome you in Hanoi 2019.
Kind regards,
Chairpersons, 9th WMC Organizing Committee

2nd South Asian Melioidosis Congress
Cinammon Lakeside Hotel, Colombo, Sri Lanka
The 2nd South Asian Melioidosis Congress, to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 29th and 30th August 2017, is the second Congress to be held in this region, involving countries like India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Pakistan, to increase awareness about melioidosis. The disease is frequently mis-or under-diagnosed in the region. Revealing the hidden burden of infection requires the co-operation of a network of microbiologists, epidemiologists, infectious disease specialists, and public health personnel. The 2nd South Asian Melioidosis Congress will allow researchers and clinical personnel meet and learn from global experts on the disease and develop collaborations within and between countries in the region and groups overseas with the ultimate goal of reducing the morbidity and mortality of this potentially fatal infection.

World Melioidosis Congress 8th
Cebu City, Philippines
Dear Colleagues,
University of Florida - Emerging Pathogens Institute is honored to host the 8th World Melioidosis Congress (WMC) 2016 in the Philippines. The congress will be held at Radisson Blu Hotel in Cebu City in Central Philippines from August 7th through 10th, 2016. The congress is also co-organized by Philippine Department of Health – San Lazaro Hospital, a national hospital for tropical diseases of the Philippines. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the congress, to learn and share current knowledge in all important aspects of melioidosis. The congress will highlight recent developments of melioidosis research under the theme “One Health”, a paradigm used to promote better understanding of melioidosis in all three aspects including human health, animal health, and environmental health. The congress will assemble a great range of clinicians, health professionals, policy makers, and laboratorians from at least 20 different countries. The congress will also give you opportunities to propose your new ideas and network with melioidosis experts from different parts of the world. In addition, there will be one and a half day pre-congress workshop on August 6th -7th, 2016. This workshop will include a full day training course “Melioidosis 101”, and a half day workshop on laboratory diagnosis and drug susceptibility testing. The training course is suitable for clinicians and laboratorians who are new to melioidosis research from tropical countries where melioidosis is underreported.
Philippines is believed to be one of the endemic countries of melioidosis in Southeast Asia, however, information about melioidosis in the Philippines is limited. We believe that hosting the 8th WMC in the Philippines would promote research, as well as, raising public awareness of melioidosis in this country. Most importantly, we do hope that the congress will address the greater mission of our research society that is to reduce the burden of melioidosis worldwide.
We look forward to welcoming you to the 8th WMC in Cebu.
Kind regards,
Apichai Tuanyok, Ph.D.
